About Melissa Harbert

Melissa is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Oregon. She received her BA from Linfield College in Oregon, and an MA in Counseling from Western New Mexico University. She has worked in women’s shelters with survivors of domestic violence, as well as with individuals and groups in school-based health clinics, community health organizations, and for the past 5 years in private practice.

Melissa has dedicated her career to supporting the growth, development, and well-being of individuals and the wider community. She has worked with children, adolescents, and families for over 45 years as an educator and clinical counselor. With a lifetime of addressing the needs for social and environmental change, she has long advocated for the restoration of rights for those whose voice needs to be heard.

Specializing in trauma recovery, Melissa has extensive training and experience with EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Mindfulness, and other experiential and neuroscience-based therapy modes. Integrating different approaches to healing and personal change, Melissa takes a sensitive but practical view to tailor sessions to meet the client’s needs and goals. She has a deep belief that, with support and a bit of guidance, individuals have the ability to access internal strengths and acknowledge their true selves in the healing process. With an emphasis on building inner and outer resources and finding self-compassion, she has helped her clients empower themselves to heal from childhood trauma, severe traumatic incidents, overwhelming life stressors, grief, depression, anxiety, and to find well-being through more healthful ways to solve life problems.

Melissa has a deep commitment to social change, equity, and justice. She is an ally who welcomes and supports personal growth and healing in teens and adults of any race, ethnicity, age, ability, nationality, socioeconomic status, gender, religion, and sexual orientation.

When out of the office, Melissa is found tending her garden, cooking, hiking, kayaking, bird watching, practicing yoga, or swapping witticisms with her family.
